Training Guidelines for Endovascular Ischemic Stroke Intervention: An International Multi-Society Consensus Document
25 February, 2016 - 15:50

Dear Friends, dear Colleagues,

Since the publication of the positive thrombectomy trials, the international professional media is noisy with a variety of propositions from different medical specialties checking in into interventional treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Our Society has already expressed its standpoint reinforcing the need of proper training in clinical neurosciences, neuroimaging and neruointerventions for all physicians prior to getting engaged in treatment of ischemic stroke.

It is my great pleasure to report the recent publication of the “Training Guidelines for Endovascular Ischemic Stroke Intervention: An International multi-society consensus document” in multiple journals, including EJMINT. This document is the result of a great effort by multiple societies and a number of individuals that was initiated during the last ESMINT Congress. The basics of the Guidelines were agreed upon at a multisociety meeting during WFITN 2015 in Gold Coast and the document finalized within the past few months with the active collaboration of all participating worldwide societies.

The impact of such a global consensus document is invaluable in securing the continued quality of stroke treatment in acute ischemic stroke around the globe. I wish to thank all of our global partners for their dedicated cooperation and all of those assisting in the coordination of this great effort.

I am convinced this work will be of great benefit in helping (re)-organization of stroke care in your respective countries. Please read the consensus document on EJMINT.

Sincerely yours,

Istvan

Statement to the Code of Ethical Business Practice
4 January, 2016 - 12:17
Dear Colleagues, dear Friends,

As you may know, on December, 2nd, 2015 EUCOMED and MEDTECH Europe has introduced a new Code of Ethical Business Practice. This new code of conduct represents a major change in financing medical education by the medical industry. As of January, 1st, 2018, EUCOMED/MEDTECH member companies will not be allowed to directly sponsor physician’s travel, lodging and registration costs for attending educational meetings or congresses hosted by “third party” organizations, such as medical associations (including ESMINT).

During multiple discussions with our industrial partners, we were assured that industry does not intend to remove their support from continued medical education. Yet, these new measures will substantially change the routine of both organizing and attending academic conferences and meetings.

ESMINT keeps negotiating with all neurovascular companies in order to find sufficient techniques to guarantee continued high quality education via academic events.  We will keep you posted on any progress in this regard.

With my warmest regards,

Istvan
